Editor, writer and staff Martin Lane owned the paper for 8 1/2 years but had to sell it to two artists from the San Francisco Bay area, Kristen Bachler and Betty Kaplowitz, who moved to Silver City 2 1/2 years ago.
Bachler said she and Kaplowitz didn't want to see the struggling paper shut down.
Kaplowitz is from Brooklyn, N.Y., and majored in creative writing at San Francisco State University. She has worked as a musician, singer and songwriter.
Bachler is a Minnesota native who graduated from Barnard College, an adjunct to Columbia University in New York City, with a degree in history. She moved to San Francisco to work as a historical writer and researcher.
The paper changed hands on Friday and its first edition is scheduled to be on the stands Jan. 3.
