Police probe woman's death

Metro Police detectives are continuing to investigate the slaying of a 49-year-old woman found dead by her father Saturday morning.

The woman was found at about 9:15 a.m. in a home in the 7100 block of Purple Shadow Avenue, detectives said. Her name was not released.

The victim's injuries included obvious trauma to the upper body and head.

The victim had a temporary protection order against her ex-husband, who was questioned by police.

Apparent suicide attempt stopped

Lake Mead National Recreation Area rangers carried a man more than a mile to a waiting ambulance from Goldstrike Canyon after he apparently tried to hang himself Monday, officials said.

Rangers were called to an area about a mile from the trailhead at Goldstrike Canyon, near mile-marker 3 on U.S. 93, officials said.

The 58-year-old man was treated at the scene and carried by the rangers to the ambulance.

State tourism director quits

CARSON CITY -- State Tourism Director Tom Tait has resigned his $83,000-a-year job.

He will become vice president of business development, government and community affairs for Lake Las Vegas.
