Business group to hold open house

Volunteers sought for Winston Cup Race

Archaeological group sponsors talk

Local politicians to bring in the Chinese New Year

Mayor Oscar Goodman and U.S. Rep. Shelley Berkley, D-Nev., will join with the Asian Chamber of Commerce to celebrate "Year of the Dragon -- 2000 The New Millennium," 6 p.m. Friday at the Rio hotel-casino in the Miranda Room.

The festivities will include an awards banquet honoring individuals within the Las Vegas Asian community, as well as a silent auction of various Chinese antiques and wares. Tickets are $75. Call Robert Young at 228-2513.

Prayer, intercession topic of 'Breaking The Barrier'

Wellspring Church and Christian Center is holding its second annual Las Vegas Congress on Prayer and Intercession "Breaking The Barrier" Thursday through Sunday, with opening session 7 p.m. Thursday at 1401 N. Henderson is hosting finance classes

The Whitney Ranch Satellite Center will host a financial management workshop 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Thurman White Middle School, at Galleria Drive and Patrick Lane. Pacific Rim workshops will be offered

Two Pacific Rim cooking workshops will be held from 6-9 p.m. on Thursday and Feb. 24 at the Black Mountain Recreation Center, 599 Greenway Road, Henderson. United Way looking to reach $10.6 million goal

Several Southern Nevada small businesses are launching a promotional campaign to help United Way of Southern Nevada reach its $10.6 million campaign goal.

The group is called the United Way Small Business Initiative and plans to speak to other small businesses in the valley on the importance of supporting the community.

Participating businesses include the Better business Bureau; Construction Notebook; Copywrite, Ink.; The Creative Group; H & A Creative Business Solutions; Nevada First Bank; Priority Staffing; and Robert Ashworth, CPAs.

High school junior recognized for poster-art contest

Nicole Fontana, a junior at Palo Verde High School, was recognized by the American Heart Association for her entry in the associations poster-art contest.

Her entry, "First Love" will be printed as posters that will be given to major contributors to the American Heart Association in recognition of their volunteerism.

The contest was open to amateur and professional artists of all ages.
