Letter: Abuser of bears should face punishment

For those readers who may not know, the two bears, Tuffy and Manfried, were found locked in a horse trailer near the city, in the blazing summer heat, practically starving and living in filth. The man responsible, according to my local paper, is Bill Vergis. Apparently he has been allowed to walk away unencumbered by the horrors he has allowed these bears to endure.

I'm happy enough to get the bears and I'll be happy to help them anyway I can, but I'm equally as interested in seeing the perpetrators of these crimes prosecuted and punished to the full extent of the law. To do otherwise implies that animal cruelty and abuse are OK in Nevada. I've written Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman and the district attorney's office in Clark County, but it would sure help if some local folks would join my attempts to get the persons who committed these crimes to be prosecuted. Please let Boteilho know that you want your tax dollars spent prosecuting animal cruelty.
