More cutbacks for Truckee community college

TMCC President John Richardson said the budget shortfall now is projected to be nearly $1.4 million, more than the $600,000 originally predicted.

In an effort to balance the budget, TMCC will slash its operating budgets by 70 percent - reducing employee travel and supply purchases to a bare minimum.

"Nobody likes to get this kind of news," Richardson said. "But everyone has realized what must be done to get us through this period."

Last month, the budget shortfall prompted TMCC to cut hundreds of classes and the instructors who teach them.

But Richardson vowed Friday not to make further cuts in classes offered by the college.
