One year received in wire fraud

A former executive director of the International Association of Gaming Attorneys was sentenced to just over a year in prison Friday and ordered to pay $98,000 in restitution.

Judy Klein, who also was a Democratic National Committee member, pleaded guilty to one count of wire fraud in October and was sentenced Friday by U.S. District Judge Johnnie Rawlinson.

According to the U.S. attorney's office, Klein wire transferred $78,000 from the association's bank account into her personal account and once doubled her $20,000 yearly salary.

As executive director, Klein was responsible for gathering membership dues, conference fees and corporate contributions in addition to organizing seminars and trips for association members.

Rawlinson sentenced Klein to 15 months in prison and ordered her to pay $98,000 in restitution. Klein must also serve three years probation once she is released.

Last month District Judge Michael Cherry ordered Klein to repay the association $170,000.
