Public comments sought on military training

The deadline for submitting comments on their final environmental impact statement is March 6. Comments should be sent to the BLM's Carson City office.

A military watchdog group has criticized the plan that would allow the Navy to place two 5.7-acre fixed electronic warfare sites and 22 smaller mobile electronic sites on public lands in central Nevada.

Officials of the Reno-based Rural Alliance for Military Accountability say the plan would lead to a greater military presence and more noise in the region.

But BLM and Navy officials say the plan would allow the Navy to train better with the same number of flights.

They insist it would lead to no more noise and only minimal surface disturbance in the four rural valleys targeted for the sites.
