Coalition files lawsuit to block neighborhood casino

A coalition of citizens has filed a lawsuit seeking to reverse a controversial vote by the Clark County Commission approving a neighborhood casino on the southwest side of the city.

The eight-story hotel-casino would be built near Flamingo Road and Grand Canyon Drive. It would be part of a larger development that would include stores, restaurants, a bowling alley and a skating rink.

Residents of the area say they were assured there would be no casinos nearby when they bought their homes.

The residents are citing a 1997 state law which they say bans casinos in residential neighborhoods.

The commission approved the project on a 3-1 vote earlier this year.
