Police say an 81-year-old Las Vegas man apparently shot his 50-year-old son-in-law, then killed himself when officers responded to the scene.
Police were called to a home early Sunday morning on a report that a man had been shot.
When officers and paramdeics arrived, the victim's wife was waiting in the street.
Officers entering the home found the victim dead on the floor, then heard a gunshot from an upstairs bedroom.
Officers sealed off the house and evacuated nearby residents. SWAT officers entered the home and found the 81-year-old suspect had taken his own life with a self-inflicted gunshot, according to Las Vegas Metropolitan Police homicide Lt. Wayne Petersen.
The Clark County Coroner's office identified the 81-year-old father-in-law as Juan Rivas and the victim as Richard Herrera.
