Smith, Edwards support college sports betting ban

Smith endorsed legislation co-sponsored by Edwards that would make it illegal for Nevada casinos to accept wagers on amateur sporting events, including high school, college and Olympic games.

"This legislation will reduce the unseemly influence that gambling has one some of our young athletes," said Edwards, D-N.C.

Smith said the legislation would close an important loophole that allows legal betting on college sports in Nevada.
