Airline can add planes

TEMPE, Ariz. -- Federal regulators backed away from barring America West Airlines from taking on new planes, and the nation's 9th-largest carrier will get its first on Friday.
Three weeks ago, the Federal Aviation Administration threatened to bar new planes until America West improved its maintenance. That threat was withdrawn Tuesday.
