NAIA power rips UNLV baseball team

Lewis-Clark State College, a perennial NAIA powerhouse, defeated the UNLV baseball team 10-1 Tuesday behind an 11-strikeout performance by left-hander Mike Chavez at Wilson Stadium.
Chavez, who entered the game in relief of starter Nick Stelzner in the third inning, got the victory after pitching 6 2/3 scoreless innings, allowing three hits and a walk.
The Warriors (3-1) backed Chavez with plenty of offense, collecting 14 hits off four different UNLV pitchers. Jason Ellison went 3-for-5 with a double.
The Rebels (3-6) were led by center fielder John Cruz, who had two of UNLV's four hits.
