Woman found shot off of Mount Rose Highway; dies at hospital

Authorities were trying to identify her and were looking for leads into a possible suspect.

Washoe County deputies Dave Butler and Jim Gunnell were on routine patrol along the Mount Rose Highway when they discovered the woman along a small road leading to a storage facility shortly before 6 p.m. Friday, authorities said.

As they were tending to her and calling for medical help, the woman said her name was Stephanie.

But that's all they know.

She was taken to Washoe Medical Center and underwent surgery, but died around 11 p.m.

The woman was described as 45 to 50 years old, about 5-foot-6 with light brown hair. She was wearing blue jeans and a pink sweater. ---

Anyone with information about the victim or a possible suspect was asked to call sheriff's detectives at 328-3001 or Secret Witness at 322-4900.
