Manchester man starts 2000 with $1 million

The 22-year-old Manchester man won the Connecticut Lottery Corporation's millennium jackpot, cashing in an instant ticket for $1 million.

Ibrahim was one of five finalists chosen out of 220,000 entries in the Lottery's qualifying drawing earlier this month. The finalists were each treated to a New Year's weekend for two in Times Square, complete with transportation in a stretch limo, four nights in a hotel, tickets to the Broadway show "Fosse" and $2,000 spending money.

Ibrahim found out he was the jackpot winner after the 4 p.m. bonus drawing on Friday. He will receive a lump sum payment of $655,000 after taxes.

The Lottery will hold a second drawing on March 1 to pick five new finalists for an additional $1 million to be drawn on March 31.

To enter, purchasers must buy the $20 "Millennium Millions" scratch-off ticket for a chance to win up to $20,000 instantly. Tickets must then be mailed in for the Lottery's second chance bonus drawing.
