Man found dead in hotel room ID’d

The Las Vegas man who was found dead Sunday at the Orleans hotel-casino has been identified as 32-year-old Roy Powell, according to the Clark County coroner.

Powell's body was found by hotel workers about 8 a.m. Sunday. He died from a severe beating, Metro Police homicide Lt. Wayne Petersen said.

Police continued to search this morning for Las Vegas resident Curtis Prevost, who was also checked into Powell's room. Powell registered at the hotel in the 4500 block of West Tropicana Avenue about 7 p.m. Saturday.

Hotel surveillance tape showed Prevost going into Powell's room at 8:20 p.m. and leaving at 8:41 p.m., Petersen said. He was carrying a duffle bag.

Prevost called the hotel Sunday morning asking hotel workers to check on Powell because the two had gotten into a fight in the room Saturday night, Petersen said. When workers went to the room, they found Powell dead.

"We obviously have enough probable cause for an arrest," Petersen said

Police know the two men were friends or acquaintances but don't know what caused the fight, Petersen said.

Prevost is white, 6 feet 3 inches tall, 220 pounds with brown hair. He was last seen wearing a light-colored jacket over a plaid shirt and light-colored pants. He was also seen carrying a duffle bag, police said. Police now believe Prevost is 37 years old and also goes by the name Curtis Barker.

Anyone with information about the whereabouts of Prevost is asked to call homicide detectives at 229-3521 or Secret Witness at 385-5555.
