Boy killed father during dispute over dirty kitchen, police say

After the 6:15 p.m. shooting Thursday, police said Conan Pope ran to a friend's house, dropped a rifle on the way and then told the friend: "I just shot my father."

Pope was arrested and charged as an adult with murder with a deadly weapon.

The father's name was not immediately released. He was 62.

Police Lt. Wayne Petersen said the dispute started when the father yelled at Pope and his 16-year-old sister after he discovered that the kitchen had not been cleaned and that the dishes had not been washed.

The father was shot at least once before Pope went to his friend's home.
