Letter: Veteran Rebel fan is fed up

As a diehard Rebel fan I am really struggling to find a reason to support Bill Bayno. Here are some thoughts:

* From 1989-1991, the Rebel program was arguably the premier program in the country.

* The Maxson-Tarkanian battle destroyed the years of hard work it took to get the program to that level, but ...

* UNLV still has a following across the country and can still rely on name recognition developed by Tark and Tim Grgurich.

* UNLV still has excellent facilities (befitting) a top program.

* UNLV and Las Vegas is not a hard place to recruit to.

So why are the Rebels not even a Top 40 program?

Bayno has basically had one good tournament. He schedules cream puffs and mixes in a couple good teams which destroy us.

Our home schedule is embarrassing.

Now is the time to cut our losses, and rebuild (John Calipari maybe?).

It is obvious that Bayno was a reach for a big-time program like UNLV. His lifestyle is far from setting a good example for the kids or being looked at as a role model.

Most importantly, he can't coach.
