Web firm entering transportation market

PurchasePro.com Inc. of Las Vegas said it hired a former airline executive to head its expansion into the transportation market.

Bruce Nobles is the former president and chief executive of Hawaiian Airlines. He formerly was with Trump Shuttle and Pan Am Shuttle.

PurchasePro.com builds Internet-based "marketplaces" used by businesses to add efficiency to the procurement process. Through these marketplaces, buyers can put out contracts for bid directly to registered sellers. Nobles will head the company's initiative to build a marketplace for the transportation industry.

Research indicates 36 percent of all procurement transactions in the transportation industry use electronic commerce in some fashion, PurchasePro said.

"This is a new untapped market for PurchasePro.com's (Internet) browser-based services," said PurchasePro.com Chairman and Chief Executive Charles Johnson Jr.
