Domestic problems lead to stabbing on Decatur

A woman managed to escape serious injury at the hands of her ex-husband Sunday as a strained relationship and domestic problems spilled over into an Albertson's grocery store.

Metro Police believe David Turner, 35, either followed or tracked his ex-wife down in an effort to harm her Sunday as she and her family parked in front of a bakery near the Albertson's at 1200 S. Decatur Blvd.

Witnesses told police that Turner's ex-wife, her mother, father and son were inside their minivan in front of Caren's Cakes Bakery & Deli when a car driven by Turner rammed into the passenger side of the van.

"He forcibly pulled her out of the car and tried to cut her with a knife," Metro spokesman officer Steve Meriwether said.

The victim managed to break away from Turner, and ran approximately 150 feet to the northern entrance of the Albertson's, where she was again caught by Turner, police said.

"She was cut right near and in the entryway area of the store," Meriwether said. "Some citizens chased him down."

After cutting the victim, Turner ran south through the lobby area of the Albertson's and out the southern entrance before being caught by citizens.

The victim was taken to University Medical Center where her injuries were treated and she was released.

Turner, who was booked into the Clark County Detention Center, has been charged with domestic violence and battery with a deadly weapon, Meriwether said. He could also still face a charge of attempted murder with a deadly weapon.

The victim had a restraining order against Turner.

"They have had domestic issues before, and she had talked to some of our officers in the domestic violence detail," Meriwether said.
