First Security buying investment firm

San Francisco-based First Security Van Kasper, an investment bank subsidiary of Salt Lake City-based First Security Corp., is acquiring the investment firm Black & Company Inc. of Portland, Ore.

Terms were not disclosed. First Security Corp. owns First Security Bank.

Van Kasper, president of First Security Van Kasper, said the acquisition will help his firm expand its operations into the Northwest. Black & Company management will continue to run the company's day-to-day operations; company Chairman Lawrence Black also becomes a vice-chairman at First Security Van Kasper.

Established in 1959, Black & Company has about 20,000 clients nationwide and manages more than $350 million in assets.
