LV man, 26, found on sidewalk

Metro Police homicide detectives are investigating the shooting death of a 26-year-old Las Vegas man found on a sidewalk in western Las Vegas late Sunday.

Ryan George was found about 11:45 p.m. Sunday lying on a sidewalk at Edmond Street and El Parque Avenue, near Oakey and Decatur boulevards, by two people passing by in a car, homicide unit Lt. Wayne Petersen said.

George had been shot in the chest and died at the scene, Petersen said.

Police this morning said they have no witnesses, no suspects and no known motive for the shooting.

George's slaying is the seventh homicide so far this year in Metro's jurisdiction compared with four at the same time last year.

Apartment residents forced to evacuate

More than a dozen people were forced from their homes when a fire started in an eight-unit apartment building early Monday at the Las Vegas Country Club, Clark County Fire Department officials said.

The two-alarm fire started about 2:30 a.m. in the two-story apartment building on the country club grounds. All the residents were able to escape unharmed, county fire spokesman Steve La-Sky said.

An estimated $350,000 in damage was caused. The blaze apparently started in the attic of one of the second-floor units. The cause is believed to be electrical, La-Sky said.

Weekly to meet his constituents

Las Vegas Councilman Lawrence Weekly will hold a neighborhood meeting Thursday at the West Las Vegas Library.

Weekly, the new Ward 5 councilman, said he wants to hear from constituents about their concerns.

He is holding his first neighborhood meeting today at 6 p.m. at Las Vegas Academy, 315 S. Seventh St.

Thursday's meeting begins at 6 p.m. and will be held in the theater of the library, 951 W. Lake Mead Blvd., between Martin Luther King Boulevard and H Street.

Wendy's robbed in Henderson

Henderson Police are asking for the public's help in tracking down the robber of a fast food restaurant Friday night.

About 9:30 p.m. a man reportedly entered the Wendy's at 603 W. Lake Mead Drive, approached a cashier and pulled up his shirt to reveal a black semiautomatic handgun in his waistband, police said.

The man demanded the money from the register, and after getting it, ran off. He is described as white, between 35 and 40 years old with dark shoulder-length hair and acne scars. He was last seen wearing a green baseball cap with a brown suede brim, a green and black flannel checkered shirt and faded blue jeans.

Police car doesn't make it to scene

A Metro Police officer on his way to a Saturday afternoon traffic accident found himself in an accident of his own.

Metro investigators believe the 30-year-old officer was attempting to make a U-turn when he crossed into the path of an oncoming pickup.

The patrol car was responding to a traffic accident at Lake Mead Boulevard and Tenaya Way. The patrol car was northbound on Tenaya and attempted to make a U-turn near the intersection when it was hit by the pickup, which was traveling southbound on Tenaya.

The officer, his 33-year-old partner and three people in the pickup were treated and released from University Medical Center for minor injuries. The accident remains under investigation and the names of the officers involved have not been released, police said.
