Dealership ordinance introduced

The Clark County Commission introduced an ordinance Wednesday that, if passed, will require new car dealerships to close on Sundays.

Commissioner Erin Kenny, who proposed the ordinance, adjusted the measure so that it does not affect used-car businesses. She said that after the first draft was written, she learned that many used-car dealerships must be open seven days a week to survive.

Car dealers have had a longstanding agreement to close on Sundays, but newer dealerships have not honored the deal. The county proposed the ordinance to put the agreement in writing. A public hearing is scheduled for 10 a.m. Aug. 1.
