Italian Catholic Federation charity set

The Italian Catholic Federation's first golf tournament to raise funds for charity is scheduled Aug. 7 at the Angel Park Golf Course. Cash prizes will be awarded to first- through fourth-place winners, plus "Longest Drive" and "Closest to the Pin." A gala evening banquet, including entertainment and raffle, will follow the tournament.

The entry fee for the tournament, which is open to all players, is $175.00, which includes green fees, golf cart and balls, box lunch, prizes, and two tickets to the awards banquet. Tickets are available for $35 per person for the awards banquet only. Special discount rates are offered to participants by the Golden Nugget hotel-casino. UMC program plans lecture

University Medical Center's Silver Advantage program will hold a lecture on heart health at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Clark County Library, 1401 E. Flamingo Road.

Coronary heart disease is the leading cause of death in America. This year an estimated 1.1 million people will experience a coronary attack with approximately 40 percent of those ending in death.

Dr. Gregory S. Uhl will discuss the risk factors of heart disease, the continued importance of controlling fat and cholesterol, and the effects of stress on the heart.

Meeting to help reunite families

The Jewish Genealogy Society of Southern Nevada will meet and discuss "Planning a Family Reunion" at 1 p.m. Sunday in the multipurpose room of the Sahara West Library, 9600 W. Sahara Ave.

Donation booths at Meadows, Boulevard

Classes focus on landscape techniques

Xeriscape, the creative use of plants and landscape techniques that save water naturally, is the focus of many classes offered this summer. These xeriscape classes feature various topics such as "Principles of Landscape Design," "Efficient Irrigation Systems" and "Plant Health and Nutrition."

The Desert Demonstration Gardens are open everyday from 8 a.m.-5 p.m., excluding major holidays, and are located at 3701 W. Alta Drive. Admission is free. For more information, call 258-3205.
