LV casino operator eyes temporary casino

NEWARK, N.J. -- Park Place Entertainment Corp. of Las Vegas plans to open a temporary casino in New York's Catskill Mountains as soon as it gains approval for its planned resort there, the Star-Ledger newspaper reported.

The company hopes the U.S. Bureau of Indian Affairs and New York state will approve the plans as early as September. Park Place is teaming with a Mohawk Indian tribe on the project.

New York Gov. George Pataki hasn't indicated if he'll support Park Place's project, the Star-Ledger said.

Park Place said May 1 it agreed to buy the 1,400-acre Kutsher's Resort Hotel and Country Club to develop the casino-resort in the Catskills with the Mohawks.
