Washoe County a bit closer to justice complex

On Tuesday, they approved a $14 million bond sale to buy the Pioneer Inn and two other buildings across the street from the old courthouse for the expansion project.

But there are still some hurdles to overcome.

Voters in November will be asked to approved an $86 million bond issue to pay for construction of the center being designed to house district, family and justice courts, and possibly Reno municipal courts.

Commissioners this week learned the county also will have to negotiate with owners of the Starlight Wedding Chapel over a lease that doesn't expire until October 2002.

The wedding chapel is owned by Assemblywoman Dawn Gibbons and her mother.
