Letter: Pigeons are misunderstood

Why doesn't the city consider the sterilization method? Within two years or less the entire problem would be solved, as wild pigeons have a life span of two years "on the street."

I love pigeons and so do many of my friends. When Janet Fitch writes in her book, "White Oleander," about beauty and joy, she says, "A flight of pigeons should be enough."

Too many people don't understand pigeons. They love to hate them. Cats defecate in my sandboxes and knock over pottery and yowl and breed and carry more diseases than birds. But people like them anyway. It's all in how you look at it. I would dearly miss the pigeon, a gentle, ancient bird, which has done much for humanity. Pigeons bathe regularly if they can, make devoted parents, and don't deserve the cruel indifference shown by pest control companies and too many individuals. I cannot bear the thought of half-dead pigeons dying in burlap sacks as I have already witnessed. Please protest this cruelty.
