Caesars tower plans discussed, but construction not imminent

Caesars Palace executives recently discussed plans to build a fifth tower at the historic Las Vegas Strip property with employees, but officials said a timetable for construction has yet to be set.

"We have no specific construction timetable yet to release for a new tower," said Caesars Palace spokeswoman Debbie Munch. "We're turning away people (because of full occupancy) that would like to stay in our hotel. The demand is there for accommodations, and a new tower is something we're all very enthusiastic about."

Park Place Chief Executive Arthur Goldberg said in February that his company was looking at the possibility of adding a 1,500-room tower to the 2,454-room hotel-casino.

However, Munch said the resort is now focusing on "Phase 1" of its expansion and renovation plans, which include the addition of several new high-end villa suites, a new high-end gaming area, two new restaurants and the "reskinning" of the property's three older towers to resemble the Roman facade of the Palace Tower. The property is also moving forward with a 52,000-square-foot indoor temporary arena, replacing the outdoor arena used earlier this year.

The new restaurants and arena should be complete by September, Munch said. The reskinning of the three older towers should be complete by January, and the new high-end villas complete by late spring 2001.
