Letter: Clinton to work for racial justice

He apparently was talking with some reporters at the White House after making a formal statement. The conversation focused on what he thought his legacy would be after the conclusion of his presidency. Mr. Clinton said: "I expect to spend the rest of my life working for racial justice."

Notwithstanding his other errors in judgment, he has, throughout his presidency, shown a deep sensitivity to the critical failure of American democracy.

The American people must understand, as the president clearly does, that the problem of racial justice is the ultimate test for this nation.
