Bust nets three in alleged 'March Madness' gambling ring

Deputies arrested three men and seized tens of thousands of dollars in cash and assets Thursday in early morning raids at five sites.
The Costa Rica-based booking operation was taking bets on college basketball tournaments, investigators said.
Local gamblers who used the operation will not be sought for prosecution, sheriff's Sgt. Tim Sheehan said.
Thursday's operation mirrored anti-gambling sweeps by local and federal law enforcement agencies in 1996 and 1997 at the start of the National Collegiate Athletic Association and National Invitational Tournament basketball tourneys.
