The funds will help defray the medical bills for Justin Suraco, who remains in serious condition at Washoe Medical Center. He has undergone six surgeries for a crushed liver and severe knee injuries.
Firefighters who helped rescue the boy after the Feb. 20 accident on the Pyramid Highway just north of Sparks gave his mother a $1,000 check during a break in Saturday's action at Pyramid Lake High School.
The boy's 6-year-old sister, Shasta, and uncle, Ronald Phoenix, 37, were killed when a car driven by a diabetic drifted into the oncoming lane and smashed into their pickup truck. The other driver also was killed.
