Letter: NRA is guilty of furthering gun violence

The violence problem is not being solved because the power of the National Rifle Association prevents the politicians from passing even the most conservative legislation. Every time a "Band-Aid" law is considered, the bellicose paranoia of the NRA spews forth its wild-eyed litany of illogic.

The NRA says the government is trying to take their guns away. This paranoia seems to come from their knowledge that their constitutional argument is weak. Citizen gun owners do not make up our modern militia. Modern militia "arms" include tanks and atomic weapons which, if the NRA interpretation is correct, we should all be able to own. From this questionable premise they move to the argument: "The police cannot protect us, and only armed men can be free." They conclude that there should be more, not fewer guns out there. They also argue that guns don't kill people. Neither do atom bombs, but I don't want everyone to own one. Such arguments as these do not convince me that these are reasonable people who deserve to own firearms.
