Blazers take 13-stroke lead

Durango's Mitch Carlson and Chris Loughney posted the day's top two individual scores to help the Trailblazers to a 13-stroke lead over second-place Green Valley after Day 1 of the 36-hole 4A State Golf Championships at Dragon Ridge Golf Course.

Carlson leads the field of 69 golfers with a 1-over 73, followed by Loughney, who is one stroke off the pace. Durango got a 77 from Randy Creighton and a 78 from Southern Zone champion Chad Fosburg for a five-golfer team total of 387.

The Gators, who come into Day 2 one stroke ahead of third-place Bonanza, were led by Drew Scott, tied for third individually with a 75. Two-time defending state champion Travis Whisman of Galena is four strokes behind Carlson with a 77.
