Letter: Label genetically engineered foods

GE foods are created by engineering genes from plants, animals, and viruses or bacteria into unrelated plants or animals to develop species with unique qualities. Often GE foods are designed to improve crop yields or to protect crops against insects or diseases. For instance, many plants are engineered to be toxic to insect pests or to resist a pesticide. The resulting crop produces its own pesticide or is immune to the toxic effects of the applied pesticides.
It is for the above reasons that I believe this is a health issue most people have no idea of.
