Locals quick at Indy

Three Southern Nevada drivers were among the top 10 fastest Wednesday in a rain-abbreviated practice in preparation for the 84th running of the Indianapolis 500 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Jimmy Vasser of Las Vegas had a lap of 219.800 mph in the Target/Chip Ganassi Racing G-Force/OldsmobileV8, the fifth fastest lap among only 17 cars on the track. Rain trimmed practice time to only 33 minutes.
Rain also shortened the practice run of three-time Indianapolis 500 winner Al Unser Jr. of Henderson to only 12 laps in the Galles ECR Racing G-Force/ OldsmobileV8. His fast lap Wednesday was 218.183, ninth fastest among cars on the track.
Davey Hamilton of Las Vegas was eighth quickest at 218.647 mph.
