Rebel leads heptathlon

UNLV freshman Chantel Yates scored 3,121 points and leads the heptathlon competition after the first day of the Mountain West Conference outdoor track and field championships at Provo, Utah. Through four events, Yates holds a slight 18-point lead over BYU's Anna-Lee Walcott, who sits in second place with 3,103 points. Utah's Erianne Allen is in third (2,979) followed by Rebel senior Heather Steadham (2,838). Yates posted season-best marks in two of the four events, clearing 5 feet, 1 3/4 inches in the high jump and clocking 24.93 seconds in the 200 meters.
