Warehouse store set for Galleria Mall site

Costco Wholesale Corp. plans to build a 155,000-square-foot Costco Super Warehouse in Henderson adjacent to Galleria Mall.

The Issaquah, Wash.-based company has agreed to purchase the north 16 acres of SunMark Plaza, a 500,000-square-foot power center at the northwest corner of Sunset Road and Marks Street. The $75 million retail center is being developed by Las Vegas-based Laurich Properties Inc.

Construction of the new warehouse will begin this summer; the new warehouse will replace a nearby, smaller store. Project completion is slated for the first quarter of 2001.

Laurich officials say Costco is the first of several "big box" retailers expected to open in SunMark Plaza.

Laurich obtained land for the project from Station Casinos, which obtained it from Santa Fe Gaming Corp. after Santa Fe abandoned plans for a casino at the site.
