Artie Brooks Sr.

Artie Brooks Sr., 78, of Las Vegas died Friday in a local care center. He was born Aug. 20, 1922, in Boston. A resident for 30 years, he was a retired comedian in the entertainment industry, a World War II Marine Corps veteran and a former comedian at the Palomino Club.

Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave., is handling arrangements.

Gilbert L. Carpenter

Gilbert L. Carpenter, 71, of Las Vegas died Saturday in Las Vegas. He was born Dec. 21, 1928, in Oakland, Calif. A resident for six years, he was a retired fire captain.

He is survived by his wife, Faye; one daughter, Kristine Branum of Bend, Ore., two sons, Marc Carpenter of Reno and Richard Carpenter of Danville, Calif.; and five grandchildren.

Affordable Cremation and Burial Service, 2457 N. Decatur Blvd., is handling arrangements.

Sister Georganne Duggan, O.P.

Sister Georganne Duggan, O.P., of Santa Cruz, Calif., died Saturday in a local hospital. A former resident of Las Vegas, she was an Adrian Dominican nun, administrator of St. Rose Dominican Hospital, was formerly in charge of fund raising for the new Dominican Hospital having started the Founders' Club presently known as the Foundation, a member of College of American Hospital Administrations and was president and a Lifetime member of the Nevada Hospital Association.

She is survived by her lifelong friend, Sister Brigid McDonald, O.P., of Santa Cruz, Calif., and the sisters of the Adrian Dominican Community.

Mass was scheduled 11 a.m. today in Holy Cross Church in Santa Cruz.

Carmen E. Fernandez

Carmen E. Fernandez, 83, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in Las Vegas. She was born Oct. 5, 1917, in Panama. A resident for three years, she was a retired retail sales owner/operator.

She is survived by one son, Leonidas Garcia of Riverside, Calif.; four daughters, Ruth Chichaco of Las Vegas, Jean Capurro of Torrence, Calif., Shirley Goodrum of Grass Valley, Calif., and Carmen Sobieraj of Laguna Niguel, Calif.; 13 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service is scheduled 10 a.m. Thursday in St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 1811 Pueblo Vista Drive. Burial will be in Palm Memorial Park, Northwest. Palm Mortuary, 1600 S. Jones Blvd., is handling arrangements.

Mort Goldstein

Mort Goldstein, 65, of Las Vegas died Friday in a local hospice. He was born Feb. 12, 1935, in New York City. A resident for 37 years, he was a retired life insurance broker, an Air National Guard and Army veteran, and a member of the National Underwriters, Las Vegas Country Club, Estate Planning Association and the Million Dollar Round Table.

He is survived by his wife, Janet; two daughters, Alisa Goldstein and Laurie Krauthamer, both of Las Vegas; one brother, Harold Goldstein of Los Angeles; and three grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 5-7 p.m. today in Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave. Services are scheduled 8:30 a.m. Tuesday in Palm Mortuary, Eastern. Burial will follow in Palm Valley View Memorial Park.

Gardner Greenman

Gardner Greenman, 80, of Las Vegas died Oct. 30 in Las Vegas. He was born Sept. 15, 1920, in Missouri. A resident for 40 years, he was a retired law office clerk, a World War II Navy veteran and was the owner of Gigi Women's Clothing Store.

Deborah Lee Holland

Deborah Lee Holland, 50, of Las Vegas died Friday in Las Vegas. A resident for 37 years, she was born Sept. 16, 1950, in Wyoming.

She is survived by her parents, LaVonne Holland of Las Vegas and William Holland of Ogallala, Neb.

Services are scheduled 11 a.m. Tuesday in Pebble Canyon LDS Ward. Burial will be in Paradise Memorial Gardens. Davis Paradise Valley Funeral Home, 6200 S. Eastern Ave., is handling arrangements.

Leona Volesky Johnson

Leona Volesky Johnson, 78, of Las Vegas died Sunday in Las Vegas. She was born Aug. 6, 1922, in Huron, S.D. A resident for 30 years, she was a homemaker and a retired administrative officer for the federal government.

She is survived by her husband, George; one daughter, Debbie Johnson of Las Vegas; and two sisters, Dorothy Hansen of Lee's Summit, Mo., and Jeanne George of New Salem, N.D.

A memorial service is scheduled 10 a.m. Tuesday in Community Lutheran Church. Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave., is handling arrangements.

Rosemary Knoer

Rosemary Knoer, 81, of Las Vegas died Friday in a local hospital. She was born March 25, 1919, in Manitoba. A resident for 11 years, she was a retired computer data processor and a member of the Grandmother's Club.

She is survived by one daughter, Sandra Boots Tiberti of Las Vegas; four sisters, Julia Bobby and Emelia Parashin and Virginia Prokopanko, all of Manitoba, and Olga Callaghan of Huntington Beach, Calif.; and three grandchildren.

Services are scheduled 6 p.m. Tuesday in Christ the King Catholic Church, 4925 S. Torrey Pines Drive. Palm Mortuary, 1600 S. Jones Blvd., is handling arrangements.

Harvey G. Lam

Harvey G. Lam, 75, of Las Vegas died Thursday in a local hospital. He was born May 4, 1925, in Canton, China. A resident for 35 years, he was a retired restaurant owner.

He is survived by one son, Kwock Fai Lam of Las Vegas; three daughters, Cynthia Lam-Roldan and Sandra Leung, both of Las Vegas, and Winnie Lee of Henderson; two brothers, Howard Lam and Hubert Lam, both of Las Vegas; two sisters, Yuk Ching Lam of San Francisco and Yuk Kum Lam of Los Angeles; and seven grandchildren.

Visitation will be 3-7 p.m. Tuesday in Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave. Services are scheduled noon Wednesday in Palm Mortuary, Easter. Burial will be 3 p.m. Wednesday in Palm Valley View Memorial Park.

Kermit Edward Meier

Kermit Edward Meier, 77, of Las Vegas died Saturday in a local care center. He was born July 19, 1923, in Bouton, Iowa. A resident for 36 years, he was a retired marketing manager, a Korean War Marine Corps veteran, and a member of the Marine Corps League and Telephone Pioneers of America.

He is survived by his wife, Britta; three daughters, Candace Matteson of Pownal, Vt., Hope Stevens of Auburn, Wash., and Jacqulyn Petrovich of Las Vegas; three sons, Steven Meier of Seattle; Mark Bradley of Sitka, Alaska, and Kevin Meier of Las Vegas; 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

William Henry Okell

William Henry Okell, 77, of Las Vegas died Saturday in Las vegas. He was born July 23, 1923, in Victoria, British Columbia. A resident for 28 years, he was retired from Housing Development and was a Canadian Army veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Agnes; two daughters, Colleen Smith of Nashville, Tenn., and Maureen Vile of Las Vegas; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Lynn R. Slade Sr.

Lynn R. Slade Sr., 89, of Henderson died Saturday in a local hospital. He was born Aug. 5, 1911, in Litchfield, N.Y. A resident for 11 years, he was a retired Navy chief yeoman, a World World II and Korean War Navy veteran and a member of the Masons in Brooklyn, N.Y.

He is survived by his wife, Corinne; two sons, Lyn R. Slade Jr. of Henderson and Ronald E. Slade of Las Vegas; one daughter, Marilyn Patterson of Henderson; one sister, Alice Winslow of Savannah, Ga.; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled one hour prior to 2 p.m. services in Palm Mortuary, 800 S. Boulder Highway, Henderson. Burial will be at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Boulder City.
