This deep, intense red wine is typical of a new breed of California cabs, a spicy, nicely structured wine with soft tannins and lots of ripe berry flavor. The wine comes from the high country, a cool region around 3,200 feet above sea level. It was aged 18 months in small French oak barrels, and the wine is unfiltered, a boon to preserving the natural flavors of the grapes. Barnwood also produces a nice Merlot and Sauvignon Blanc, and the vineyard plans on being a name to be reckoned with soon.
Available at Spirits Plus, $15.99, and Lee's Discount Liquors, $15.99.
