Douglas Vernon Anderson

Douglas Vernon Anderson, 53, of Las Vegas died Saturday in a local hospital. He was born May 21, 1947, in Utah. A resident for 18 years, he was a cement finisher, a Navy veteran, a professional bass fisherman and a member of the Small Business Association.

He is survived by his parents, O. Vernon and Myrle Anderson; and one sister, Carolyn Hess.

Lucille G. Baker

Lucille G. Baker, 85, of Las Vegas died Sunday in Las Vegas. She was born Aug. 20, 1915, in Athens, Okla. A resident for four years, she was a retired food service owner.

She is survived by two sons, LaMoyne Hinricksen and Leland Hinricksen, both of Las Vegas; four brothers, Henry Graham, Edward Graham, Carroll Graham and Vernia Graham, and one sister, Rachel Corley, all of Oklahoma; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 4 p.m. Wednesday in Memory Gardens, 7251 W. Lone Mountain Road. Bunkers Mortuary, 925 Las Vegas Blvd. North, is handling arrangements.

William K. Bell

William K. Bell, 69, of Las Vegas died Sunday in a local hospital. He was born Dec. 5, 1930, in St. Andrews, Scotland. A resident for 20 years, he was an engineer for a fiber optics installer.

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn; one son, Kenneth Bell of Las Vegas; five stepsons, Charles Quiba, Aquilino Quiba and Samuel Quiba, all of Las Vegas, and Felix Quiba and William Quiba, both of the Philippines; one stepdaughter, Farrah Quiba of Las Vegas; and nine grandchildren.

Visitation will continue until 7 p.m. today and noon until 7 p.m. services Wednesday in Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave.

Joseph John Besch

Joseph John Besch, 71, of Henderson, died Sunday in Henderson. He was born May 23, 1929, in Pittsburgh. A resident for 12 years, he was a retired Air Force major and Korean War and Vietnam War veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Wanda; one daughter, Lisa McKeon of Henderson; one son, Richard Besch of Tampa, Fla.; one sister, Elizabeth Kunzmann of Pittsburgh; and two grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Wednesday in Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave. Services will be 4 p.m. Wednesday in St. Viator Catholic Church, 2461 E. Flamingo Road. Graveside services will be 9:30 a.m. Thursday in Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Boulder City.

Henry Beza

Henry Beza, 64, of Henderson died Monday in a local hospital. He was born Dec. 24, 1935, in New York City. A resident for 20 years, he was a retired metal smith and a Korean War Navy veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Maxine; four daughters, Brenda Sisson of Yuma, Ariz., Shari Beza and Amy Sodupe, both of Las Vegas, and Karey Beza of San Diego; four sons, Eddie Beza of Las Vegas and Dan Beza, Chris Beza and John Beza, all of Henderson; his mother, Luisa Perez, and one sister, Margaret Beza, both of Littleton, Colo.; and 13 grandchildren.

Mary Ann Carafano, 57, of Las Vegas died Friday in a local health care center. She was born Feb. 26, 1943, in Albany, N.Y. A resident for 13 years, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by her husband, Charles M.; two daughters, Maureen Lake of Las Vegas and Nancy Casey of Albany; one son, Gregory Bleau of Waterbury, Conn.; three sisters, Gloria LeBarron and Elizabeth Carafano, both of Albany, and Catherine Russett of Cohoes, N.Y.; and two brothers, Ronald Russett of Guilderland, N.Y., and Thomas Russett of Hyannis, Mass.

John Frederick Carlson

John Frederick Carlson, 54, of Las Vegas died Saturday in Las Vegas. An economist and an Army veteran, he was born Jan. 23, 1946, in Kansas City, Mo.

He is survived by two sons, Kevin Carlson and Scott Carlson, both of Dallas; and two brothers, Bruce Carlson of Marceline, Mo., and Kenneth Carlson of Hattiesburg, Miss.

Leveda M. Gonser

Leveda M. Gonser, 84, of Hutchinson, Kan., died Thursday in Hutchinson. She was born May 30, 1916, in Ripley, Okla. A former Las Vegas resident for 10 years, she was laundry presser.

She is survived by one daughter, Patricia Kilpatrick of Hutchinson; three sons, John Delbert Jeffries of Lee's Summit, Mo., Herbert D. Jeffries of Las Vegas and Albert Leroy Gonser of Sandy Valley; one sister, Janie Lucine Ferris of Edmond, Okla.; 14 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in Bunkers Mortuary, 925 Las Vegas Blvd. North. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens.

Frank Washington Penfield Hall, 83, of Las Vegas died Saturday in a local hospital. He was born Feb. 7, 1917, in Pennsylvania. A resident for 14 years, he was an owner of a heating and air-conditioning business.

He is survived by two sons, Frank W. Hall II of Indiana, Pa., and John Hall of Port Republic, N.J.; one daughter, Barbara Court of Las Vegas; one brother, Earl Y. Hall of Houston; one sister, Dorothy Jean Backenstose of Hershey, Pa.; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

She is survived by one son, Michael Hawkins of Logandale, Utah; three daughters, Karan Ray, Pamela Thompson and Karma Kobielsky, all of Las Vegas; three sisters, Betty Frisby of Payson, Utah, Beverly Burgi of Orem, Utah, and LaWanna Taufer of Bullhead City, Ariz.; 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Sylvia O. Hendricks

Sylvia O. Hendricks, 77, of Las Vegas died Sunday in a local hospital. She was born May 28, 1923, in Paragold, Ark. A resident for 24 years, she was a homemaker and a member of the Eastern Star.

She is survived by two sons, Joseph D. Hendricks and Harry W. Hendricks, and one sister, Earlene Hale, all of Las Vegas; one brother, Frank Wilkerson of Vancouver, Wash.; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Paul E. 'Bud' Horn Jr.

Paul E. "Bud" Horn Jr., 71, of Las Vegas died Wednesday in Las Vegas. He was born Aug. 23, 1929, in Easton, Pa. A resident for 45 years, he retired as a casino cage supervisor after 35 years and was an Army veteran.

He is survived by two sisters, Pattie Stambaugh and Paulette Hutchison, and one brother, Phil Horn, all of Las Vegas.

Mary Grace Jackson, 54, of Las Vegas died Saturday in Las Vegas. She was born May 29, 1946, in Charleston, W.Va. A resident for 31 years, she was an office manager for a vocational rehabilitation service and an adviser for the wrestling team at Eldorado High School in 1987.

She is survived by her husband, Kenny; two daughters, Cherine Petcoff of Las Vegas and Deanna Jackson of Port Richey, Fla.; two sons, David C. Jackson of Columbus, Ohio, and Douglas Jackson of Las Vegas; her father, Ray Lucas of Newbury, Ohio; four brothers, Guy Lucas of Weston, W.Va., Sam Lucas of Baltimore, David Walker of Charleston and Nick Iannetta of South Carolina; and 12 grandchildren.

Gladys Ayako Kawano, 85, of Pahrump died Monday in Henderson. A resident for 2 1/2 years, she was born Sept. 26, 1914, in Honolulu.

She is survived by one daughter, Joan Crim of Pahrump; one son, Douglas Kawano of California; eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Mary Elizabeth Kilgour

Mary Elizabeth Kilgour, 95, of Las Vegas died Monday in a local care center. She was born June 6, 1905, in New York. A resident for four years, she was a telephone operator.

She is survived by two sons, William Kilgour of Las Vegas and Robert Kilgour of New York; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

John MacClafferty

John MacClafferty, 84, of Las Vegas died Monday in Las Vegas. He was born Aug. 12, 1916, in Glasgow, Scotland. A resident for 40 years, he was a civil engineer.

He is survived by his wife, Eileen; one son, John MacClafferty, and one daughter, Moira Cyphers, both of Las Vegas; one sister, Betty MacClafferty of Australia; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Howard Thomas McGivern, 65, of Las Vegas died Sept. 18 in Las Vegas. A security officer and an Air Force veteran, he was born May 6, 1936, in Minnesota.

He is survived by one daughter, Amanda Frank of Laguna Niguel, Calif.

Norma M. Morales, 88, of Boulder City died Friday in a local hospital. She was born July 3, 1912, in Oklahoma. A resident for 25 years, she was a retired grocery clerk, a member of the Women's Club in Boulder City.

She is survived by one daughter, Barbara Edge of McGill; one son, Jerry Hansen of Manhattan Beach, Calif.; one sister, Delia Clark of Los Angeles; 12 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her companion, Tom Ledingham; one son, Russell Rutledge; her mother, Marie Broughton; one brother, Dunton M. Broughton Jr.; and two sisters, Vangie Thames and Barbara Dorman.

Christine Marie Schifferns, 56, of Henderson died Friday in Henderson. She was born April 9, 1944 in Binghamton, N.Y. A resident for 23 years, she was a medical records management information systems technician and a Navy veteran.

She is survived by her husband, Robert; two daughters, Sandy Terrin and Deanna Tillery, and one son, David Schifferns, all of Las Vegas; her mother, Ursula Hankey of Sparks; three sisters, Lois Hankey of Chicago, Kathy Fields of San Diego and Janise King of Reno; and three grandchildren.

Juan B. Sotomayor, 77, of Las Vegas died Friday in Las Vegas. He was born July 11, 1923, in Caracas, Venezuela. A resident for 27 years, he was a retired government military controller, a loan officer at Norwest Mortgage, a retired Air Force lieutenant colonel and World War II and Korean War veteran, past president of the Uptown Las Vegas Kiwanis Club, director of the American Cancer Society of Clark County, first vice-president of the Thunderbird Chapter of the Air Force Association, director of Forge, the foundation for Resource Gains through Engineering and the Urban League, a member of the Girl Scouts planning committee, the Southern Nevada Association of Life Underwriters and Health Underwriters, affiliated with the Mortgage Bankers Association and Las Vegas Board of Realtors.

He is survived by his wife, Carmen; two daughters, Mindy Hiers of Georgia and Debyi Borden of Nevada; one son, Ramon Garcia of Washington state; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Sam Suval, 88, of Las Vegas died Wednesday in a local hospice. He was born March 10, 1912, in New York. A resident for nine years, he was a retired paper salesman, an Army veteran, a member of the Shriners, Jewish War Veterans and the Masonic Daylite Lodge.

He is survived by his wife, Edith; one son, Chase Crosser of Culver City, Calif.; two stepsons, Steve Suval of Oxnard, Calif., and Edward Suval of Las Vegas; one stepdaughter, Susan Mayoff of Pleasant Hill, Calif.; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Edward G. Tremblay, 86, of Las Vegas and Spokane, Wash., died Saturday in a local hospice. He was born June 17, 1914, in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. A Las Vegas resident for one year, he was a retired millwright in the paper industry.

He is survived by one daughter, Darlene Lang of Las Vegas; two sisters, Marianne Moss and Laurana Martin, and two brothers, Paul Tremblay and Joseph Tremblay, all of Spokane; one grandchild and two great-grandchildren.
