New ‘NewsOne at 9’ co-anchor brings decade of experience

The newest member of "NewsOne at 9," a nightly newscast on Las Vegas ONE, a 24-hour cable news station jointly owned by the Las Vegas Sun and KLAS Channel 8, will bring more than a decade of reporting experience when he joins the program in May.

Jeff Gillan has spent the past 11 years as a weeknight co-anchor on the Madison, Wis., ABC affiliate, WKOW. Gillan graduated from Georgetown University and obtained a master's degree in journalism from American University before starting his television career in 1986 in Fort Smith, Ark.

In Arkansas, Gillan covered then-Gov. Bill Clinton. He later made a stop in Roanoke, Va., before heading to his native Wisconsin.

" 'NewsOne at 9' uses longer form interviews that allow you to really take the time and not have to cram it into a half-hour show," Gillan said. "I've always loved to conduct interviews."

Gillan also has experience covering international stories.

"A couple a years ago we had some Wisconsin units who were in the NATO operation in Serbia," Gillan said. "I was able to fly on some refueling missions over Kosovo."

Gillan will join anchor Deborah Levy and will be live at the Las Vegas Sun as Levy is hosting at Channel 8 studios.

Las Vegas ONE General Manager Bob Stoldal signed Gillan to a multiyear contract after a four-month search.

"We are excited to add a journalist of Jeff's background and skill to the Las Vegas ONE team," Stoldal said.
