Stephen Avakian

Stephen Avakian, 73, of Las Vegas died Saturday in Las Vegas. A space engineer, he was born April 1, 1928, in Michigan.

He is survived by one sister, Agnes Avakian.

No local services are scheduled. Burial will be in Detroit. Hites Funeral Services, 438 W. Sunset Road, Henderson, is handling arrangements.

William Hugh Basye

William Hugh Basye, 65, of Henderson died Dec. 4 in a local hospital. He was born March 29, 1936, in St. Louis. A resident for 16 years, he was an inspector in the auto industry and an Army veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Jytte M.; two sons, Dennis Basye of Las Vegas and Gerald Basye of St. Louis; and one sister, Jeanette Downs of O'Fallon, Mo.

Graveside services were scheduled at 11:20 a.m. today in Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Boulder City. Nevada Funeral Service-Nevada Cremation or Burial Society, 2983 Fremont St.

Joseph Breger

Joseph Breger, 76, of Henderson died Saturday in a local hospital. He was born July 29, 1925, in New York City. A resident for 15 years, he was a retired tool and die maker in the automotive industry and a member of the Men's Club in Henderson.

He is survived by his wife, Olene M.; two daughters, Pamela Burton of Akron, Ohio, and Kathy Young of Las Vegas; one sister, Evelyn Macri of Menlo Park, Calif.; and three grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 5-7 p.m. today in Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St. Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday in Palm Chapel, Eastern. Burial will follow in Palm Valley View Memorial Park, 7600 S. Eastern Ave.

Ronald F. Chandler

Ronald F. Chandler, 62, of Las Vegas died Friday in Las Vegas. He was born Feb. 21, 1939, in Toledo, Ohio. A resident for 11 years, he was an electronics technician for the military and a Vietnam War Air Force veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Pilar; one son, Michael Chandler, and one daughter, Pamela Kaiwi, both of Las Vegas; his mother, Elizabeth Chandler of Cedar Falls, Iowa; one brother, Phillip Chandler of Ely, Minn.; two sisters, Pamela Svenby of Keosauqua, Iowa, and Renita Brackin of Gillette, Wyo.; and five grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 10 a.m. Wednesday in Davis Funeral Home, 2127 W. Charleston Blvd. Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday in Davis Funeral Home, 2127 W. Charleston Blvd. Burial will be in Paradise Memorial Gardens, 6200 S. Eastern Ave.

Joe F. Cummins

Joe F. Cummins, 85, of Las Vegas died Nov. 13 in Las Vegas. He was born June 16, 1916, in Oklahoma. A resident for six years, he was a machinist in the oil fields for 19 years.

He is survived by one daughter, Cam Andrew of California; and one sister, Larraine Bruce of Colorado.

Ruth Louise Denney

Ruth Louise Denney, 81, of Las Vegas died Friday in a local hospital. She was born Feb. 2, 1920, in Massachusetts. A resident for nine years, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by three sons, Richard Soza, Charles Soza and Jesse Soza; and one daughter, Kathleen Snodgrass.

Harry Dorris

Harry Dorris, 76, of Las Vegas died Saturday in Las Vegas. He was born July 21, 1925, in New York. A resident for nine years, he was a truck driver for 12 years.

He is survived by his wife, Ida; three sons, Chet Dorris, Robert Dorris and James Dorris, all of California; two brothers, Robert Hennigan of New York state and Albert Hennigan of New Jersey; one sister, Marion Boby of Florida; and seven grandchildren.

Katie Gursik, 74, of Las Vegas died Sunday in Las Vegas. She was born July 15, 1927, in Akron, Ohio. A resident for 11 years, she was a homemaker.

Susan C. House

Susan C. House, 54, of Henderson died Sunday in a local hospital. She was born May 20, 1947, in Indianapolis. A resident for 20 years, she was a retail clerk at a supermarket.

She is survived by her husband, Eugene; one daughter, Karla McIntyre, one son, Michael D. House, and her mother, Minnie Fulford, all of Henderson; and two grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 2 p.m. until a 6 p.m. service Thursday in Palm Mortuary, 800 S. Boulder Highway, Henderson.

Joyce L. Kaiser

Joyce L. Kaiser, 53, of Bend, Ore., died Friday in a local hospital. A retired product analyst for a utility company, she was born Oct. 6, 1948, in South Weymouth, Mass.

She is survived by one daughter, Kellie Wanbaugh of North Las Vegas; one son, John Kaiser II of Georgetown, Ky.; four sisters, Joan Salisbury of Glen Burnie, Md., Helen Jaskiewicz of Billerica, Mass., Kate Purler of Dublin, Ireland, and Marylou Gifford of Weymouth; and three grandchildren.

Herbert H. Kehlert

Herbert H. Kehlert, 74, of Las Vegas died Saturday in a local hospital. He was born Aug. 4, 1927, in New York City. A resident for 10 years, he was a retired newspaper truck driver, a World War II Navy veteran and a member of the American Legion.

He is survived by his wife, Jane; two sons, Jeffrey Kehlert of Ringoes, N.J., and Christopher Kehlert of Las Vegas; and one grandchild.

A memorial service will be 1 p.m. Thursday in Palm Mortuary, 1600 S. Jones Blvd.

Margaret L. Lavelle

Margaret L. Lavelle, 82, of Henderson died Saturday in a local hospice. She was born Dec. 25, 1918, in Morgan, W.Va. A resident for 21 years, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by two daughters, Linda Lavelle of Henderson and Sondra Jacobs of Chatsworth, N.J.; one son, Joseph Wehrle of St. Albans, W.Va.; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Catherine Zmuda Lubaszka, 71, of Henderson died Saturday in a local hospital. She was born Nov. 7, 1930, in Philadelphia. A resident for 13 years, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by her husband, Casey; two daughters, Priscilla Niekerk and Vicky Bland, both of Henderson; two brothers, Francis Konstanty of Childs, Md., and Frank Zmuda of Downey, Calif.; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Alvina B. Matza, 74, of Las Vegas died Friday in Las Vegas. She was born Feb. 7, 1927, in Canada. A resident for 30 years, she was a homemaker and a member of Pleasant Valley Bingo Club.

She is survived by her husband, Isaac; two daughters, Donna Dufresne of Surrey, British Columbia, and Lois Adams of Abbotsford, British Columbia; three sisters, Elsie Elgie of Burnaby, British Columbia, and Rose Brownridge and Irma Vollhoffer, both of White Rock, British Columbia; one brother, Rudy Vollhoffer of Southey, Saskatchewan; and five grandchildren.

Madelene K. McLaughlin, 94, of Las Vegas died Sunday in a local hospital. She was born Nov. 25, 1907, in Kansas City, Mo. A resident for eight years, she was a retired singer and radio personality.

She is survived by her husband, Ed; one daughter, Barbara Wampler of Toledo, Ohio; three sons, Gary Owen of Kure Beach, N.C., Tad Owen of Perrysburg, Ohio, and Steve Owen of Gilroy, Calif.; 15 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.

Kathleen L. Morrow

Kathleen L. Morrow, 82, of Las Vegas died Thursday in Las Vegas. She was born Oct. 31, 1919, in Pennsylvania. A resident for four years, she was a restaurateur.

She is survived by one daughter; Elizabeth Morrow Wolf; three sisters, Margaret Laurent, Dorothy Jenkins and Elizabeth Abell.

Norris Nicholson, 73, of Las Vegas died Sunday in Las Vegas. A farmer, he was born April 20, 1928, in Jamaica.

He is survived by his wife, Kathleen of North Las Vegas; one son, Lyndon Nicholson of Las Vegas; three daughters, Sandria Francis and Eullalee Hanson, both of Las Vegas and Alda James of North Las Vegas; nine brothers and sisters, all of Jamaica; and nine grandchildren.

Catherine Petrauskas, 79, of Las Vegas died Sunday in a local hospital. She was born April 8, 1922. A resident for 12 years, she was a retired teacher.

She is survived by her husband, John B.; one daughter, Korinne Angerbrandt of Port Huron, Mich.; and three grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 30 minutes prior to a 10 a.m. service Wednesday in Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St. Burial will follow in Palm Memorial Park.

Susan F. Pikcunas, 50, of Las Vegas died Sunday in Las Vegas. She was born March 17, 1951, in Chicago. A resident for six months, she was an executive secretary in law enforcement and a member of Pen Dragons.

She is survived by her husband, Charles R.; one daughter, Laurel Pikcunas of Las Vegas; and her mother, Albina Strohm of Niles, Ill.

John L. Pipkin, 63, of Las Vegas died Monday in Las Vegas. He was born Dec. 1, 1938, in Oklahoma City. A resident for 14 years, he was a retired representative for a glass and mirror company and a Korean War Army veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Beatrice; two sons, John Pipkin Jr. of San Diego and Tony Pipkin of Las Vegas; and five grandchildren.

Ivan Ross Purcell Jr.

Ivan Ross Purcell Jr., 36, of Las Vegas died Dec. 3 in Las Vegas. He was born Nov. 20, 1965, in Las Vegas. A lifelong resident, he was a handyman.

He is survived by three daughters, Randa Purcell of Logan, Utah, and April Purcell and Tabatha Purcell, both of Las Vegas; four brothers, Laurie "Butch" Bowman of Price, Utah, and Larry Purcell and William Condon, both of Las Vegas; and five sisters, Artis Haigler and Coralie Purcell, both of Las Vegas, Gaylyn Jobson of Mapleton, Utah, Annie Purcell of Orem, Utah, and Alicia Purcell of Price.

Walter H. Tampke Jr., 73, of Las Vegas died Sunday in a local hospital. He was born June 26, 1928, in Jefferson City, Mo. A resident for 41 years, he was a retired power company supervisor, a World War II Navy veteran, a member of the Scottish Rite and Mount Moriah Lodge 39.

He is survived by his wife, Gladys; four daughters, Charlotte Tampke, Carolyn Baccari and Catherine Simicich, all of Las Vegas and Connie Spielberg of Henderson; one son, Walter H. Tampke III of Las Vegas; one sister, Charlotte Garlington of Lacy, Wash.; 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Jeanne M. Tyau, 68, of Las Vegas died Thursday in a local health care center. She was born Feb. 5, 1933, in Klamath Falls, Ore. A resident for 20 years, she was a retired accountant.

She is survived by one daughter, Desiree M. Martin of Chino Valley, Ariz.; one sister, Holly Landaker of Kerby, Ore.; and two granddaughters.
