Cigar store to open in Vegas

Miami-based Havana Republic is opening its first cigar emporium outside of Florida at Desert Passage, the 130-store mall at the Aladdin hotel-casino on the Las Vegas Strip.

The 1,100-square-foot store includes a walk-in humidor and will carry a variety of cigars and cigar-related merchandise. It is scheduled to open today.

The company will compete with several premium cigar outlets in Las Vegas, some located at resort properties.

Steven Schatzman, president of publicly traded Havana Republic, said the new store is part of the company's strategy of expanding beyond its South Florida base into established domestic and international centers of gaming.
