Letter: Power allowance may help valley conserve energy

I read about the power curtailment plan that is being offered to certain companies by Nevada Power Co. Too bad they cannot re-establish the load management program so many of us had a few years back.

The radio-activated devices are still on our air conditioners and could easily be put in service again. They allowed the company to control the operation of our air conditioners for a certain time during each hour of the peak hours of use. For years it was a plan that worked well. Then about five years ago Nevada Power informed us they could buy the extra power cheaper than they could give us an allowance.

The picture has changed drastically. Why not start the "load management" program again as we face some serious problems with the coming of summer? Please, Mike Smart and Karl Walquist, consider giving us household users a break also. We realize that "conservation" is going to be the key word from now on.
