Letter: Reckless drivers hurt others, not just themselves

As format requires, this letter is addressed "to the editor," but it is really addressed to the thoughtless, hazardous driver of a white SUV who I encountered on U.S. 95 in the morning two weeks ago during our heavy rainstorm. With the road slippery, traffic was moving freely and unusually courteously by most drivers at about 50-52 mph.

You, bent over the steering wheel of your SUV, and ignoring the slippery conditions, exceeded the speed limit several times only to pull up short behind other cars, tailgating them; you were observed cutting across lanes of traffic; in fact I counted seven lane changes by your vehicle between the Rainbow curve and Valley View exit.

By chance, when you exited Valley View, as I do every day of my morning commute, you continued down Valley View in the same reckless manner, weaving, tailgating and cutting across lanes.

Your erratic driving, which some people would call "aggressive driving," I think was an example of dangerous, inconsiderate stupidity.

You not only put your own life and vehicle at risk, which is your business, but you put at risk every one of the cars that you tailgated on a slippery road, every car and driver that you cut off to change lanes, and that becomes the concern of every safe, sane, courteous driver.

You and others like you should be ashamed, and I hope that your erratic driving leads only to your own demise and not that of others.
