Mesquite property adding timeshares

MESQUITE -- The Casablanca hotel-casino in Mesquite is in the process of adding 15 timeshare units, a project that should be complete in early June.

The Casablanca will have 27 timeshare units when complete. Jerry Ransdell, the project's broker, estimated the three-story project will cost $1.5 million.

"Timesharing is becoming more popular with hotel chains," Ransdell said. "It's just a complement to the hotel. We sold out of the initial (12), so we needed additional ones to sell."

Most demand for the timeshare units is coming from the Las Vegas Valley and Utah, but there's also interest from throughout the Mountain West, Ransdell said.

The Casablanca is owned by businessman Randy Black Sr. He also owns the Virgin River hotel-casino in Mesquite, a town on Interstate 15 about 90 miles north of Las Vegas.
