Silverado, Durango players named MVPs

After leading their teams to division and regional titles, Silverado second baseman Sonia Randolph and Durango first baseman Toni Del Toro have been selected 2001 Sunrise and Sunset softball most valuable players by area coaches.

Eldorado's Crystal Alspaugh and Centennial's Shannon Crisp were named Sunrise and Sunset pitchers of the year after helping their squads to division titles and appearances in this week's 4A State Tournament, which begins Wednesday at West Flamingo Park.

Joining Randolph and Alspaugh on the all-Sunrise first team were: Las Vegas' Lyndsey Webb and Brieanna Kinard, Basic's Jenn Bowen, Brittany Lorenzen and Marisa Marconi, Foothill's Roxanne Ritchie, Green Valley's Allison Dunn and Silverado's Megan McPherason. The Skyhawks' Chuck Pope was named Coach of the Year.

Along with Del Toro and Crisp, the all-Sunset first team consisted of: Durango's Tisha Salamino and Aja Sherman, Centennial's Maggie Livreri and Amy Sauer, Cimarron-Memorial's Victoria Morache, Clark's Jodee Italiano and Bonanza's Katie Kaempfer and Ashlie Vohs.
