Columnist Joe Delaney: Comedic duo Conway-Korman back at Hilton

Joe Delaney's column appears on Thursdays and Fridays. Reach him at 259-4066 or [email protected]

Tim Conway and Harvey Korman have become Las Vegas Hilton regulars, playing there several times a year ... Conway is probably the best second banana in the business, an award-winning standout on the long-running "The Carol Burnett Show," while Korman, also a multiple-award winner with Burnett and elsewhere, is a straight-man and comedian who ranks with Dean Martin, Carl Reiner, Dan Rowan, Phil Silvers and other greats of the past.

Conway, whose career spans more than 40 years, earned four Emmys with Burnett and a fifth in 1997 for a special appearance on "Coach" ... His extensive film resume includes numerous Disney films, several of them co-starring with Don Knotts ... His television credits would consume most of this page.

Korman studied drama in Chicago's Goodman Theatre School; won five Emmys with Burnett, plus a Golden Globe Award ... He has also won several awards as a television producer and director ... Film credits include several Pink Panther films plus Mel Brooks' classic "Blazing Saddles," "High Anxiety" and "History of the World, Part I."

Luise DuArt, a brilliant impressionist, adds that element plus impeccable sketch credentials to the Conway-Korman combination ... An impromptu appearance, on a dare, at the Los Angeles Comedy Store led DuArt to "Star Search" wins, two years touring with Donna Summer, and a similar period co-starring in "Catskills on Broadway."

If you were a Burnett television show fan, then you have to be fans of Conway and Korman, and happy they are together again and again at Las Vegas Hilton.

Reno weekend, continued

Flamingo Las Vegas' "Bottoms Up" producer-star Breck Wall and his partner, Patrick Maes, are represented in Reno with "Jubilation," starring Las Vegan Pudgy, billed as the "Queen of Tease," very funny, at the Flamingo Reno ... The Reno Hilton has "Carnival of Wonders," starring magicians Mark Kalin and Jinger with comedian-magician Jeff Hobson.

Star policy obtains at the Silver Legacy with Anne Murray, who headlined this past weekend; Tony Bennett performs there Friday and Saturday, and Neil Sedaka, performing at the Orleans this weekend, is scheduled there Oct. 13 ... Star policy is also available sporadically at Caesars Tahoe and Harrah's Tahoe ... Elsewhere, it's production shows.

Impressionist Gordie Brown is committed to Harrah's Reno for the next six months, as is Dick Foster's production of "Whisper," featuring Aisling Bowyer and magicians Nathan Burton and Sarah ... In Thursday's column, we will compare cultural activities in Reno and Las Vegas and the effects of the Sept. 11 catastrophe on both areas.
