Man shot after robbery in casino

A man was shot to death after a robbery at Boulder Station Friday night, Metro Police said.

Michael Williams, 30, of Las Vegas, who police said robbed one of the casino's change booths about 11 p.m. while brandishing a pistol, was later shot by a casino security guard. Williams was taken to University Medical Center, where he died.

Police said Williams fled out the front doors of the casino but then ran back through the casino, firing his weapon indiscriminately.

A Boulder Station employee tried to subdue Williams, but was shot at least once. The worker was taken to University Medical Center's Trauma Center and is in fair condition.

As Williams continued to run, he knocked a casino patron to the floor and then was shot by the security guard.

Gambling continued throughout the incident, witnesses said, and most patrons did not panic.

After an investigation, police said, it appears that the security officer was justified in his use of deadly force. No arrests were made.

The case will be independently reviewed by the Clark County district attorney.
