Family Court Department I

There is no primary election for candidates in four of the six Family Court judicial races.

The following nonpartisan races, which will be on the November ballot only, are:

Department I

Attorney Phil Beuth is seeking to unseat Family Court Judge Cheryl Moss in a rematch of the 2000 election.

Moss said her strengths as a judge are her people skills. She said she works long hours to keep her courtroom running efficiently with some of her trials running well into the night.

Moss said she is the first judge in Nevada history to initiate gambling assessments in custody cases. She also created a referral form so people with gambling problems can get the help they need.

Moss serves on a committee for the enforcement of civil orders, and volunteers for 24-hour emergency Temporary Protective Order fax duty and for night court. She is a Clark County Law Library trustee and volunteers for the Trial by Peers program, the Nevada High School Mock Trial Competition and the UNLV Law School Moot Court Competition.

Beuth said he wants to improve the responsiveness of Department I. He said his primary strength is his legal knowledge and experience.

He said he is a strong communicator and has the settlement skills necessary to be an effective judge. He said he has "more life experience and legal experience" than his opponent.

Beuth said he would increase customer service in Family Court. He also would cut down on the amount of time people spend in court so judicial decisions could be made in a more timely manner.

Beuth is a member of the Bench Bar Committee and the Trial by Peers program.
