Buying a wine with the name Moueix on it for under $10 is akin to getting Jack Nicholson to do your next film for scale.
Christian Moueix is a partner in the famous Chateau Petrus, one of the world's best and most expensive wines, the principal owner of California's Dominus, and a producer of many other fine labels.
This is a generic Merlot, but it has a fine, rich flavor, an earthy depth, soft tannins for its comparatively young age and a long finish. It blows away California Merlots at this price, and it's also a wine that should continue to improve with age for quite some time.
Available at Wild Oats Markets, $9.99.
